Dr. Collin Diedrich has a PhD in Molecular Virology and Microbiology from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, a certificate in Disability Legal Studies from University of Pittsburgh School of Law, worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and is currently a postdoctoral associate researching how HIV changes immunological responses to tuberculosis at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Diedrich has multiple learning disabilities [unspecified reading (DSM-IV 315) and learning disorders (315.9)], which means he reads between a 6th and 9th grade level and has a processing speed in the bottom 14 percentile of the population. Despite these disadvantages, he was able to achieve his dream of becoming a research scientist! He now wants to make sure that people’s disabilities do not stand in their way of achieving their goals.
Dr. Diedrich is a member of the Adult Topics Committee at Learning Disabilities Association of America and is the founder and president of a new non-profit, Learning Disabilities Association of Pennsylvania. He is a freelance writer for Understood.org, as well.
Dr. Diedrich is a passionate advocate for all people who learn differently.
